Description |
In this scene depicting a naval battle in a moderate sea, the three-masted "H.M.S. Mediator" with the British flag flying at stern is in the foreground, slightly right of center. The British vessel is engaged in gunfire with a French ship on its left and an American ship on its right; three other masted ships are in the background and sunlit clouds fill the sky. Robert Dodd was an English marine painter and engraver who frequently exhibited his work at the Royal Academy. |
