Description |
This watercolor depicts the Battle of New Orleans, the final major conflict in the War of 1812. The scene depicts the entire engagement between the victorious American troops, led by Andrew Jackson, and the British led by Generals Gillys and Packingham. Each stage of the battle is lettered, and the key is inscribed below. The townscape of New Orleans, along with a cedar swamp and the Mississippi River, can be seen in the background. |
