Description |
In this lake scene, Native Americans are paddling two canoes toward an encampment on the shore where an adult and a child stand near a tepee. A formation of geese can be seen in the background sky. The painting is signed "O'Brien | 1874" in the lower right. Formerly an architect and civil engineer, Lucius O'Brien became a painter c.1872 and subsequently served as vice president of the Ontario Society of Artists and was the founding president of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. His paintings were purchased by Queen Victoria and hung at Windsor Castle and at the Osborne House on the Isle of Wight. |
