Description |
This chest on chest was made in three parts, including a separate pediment with a pierced tympanum, S-scroll mouldings with carved scroll terminations, a carved plinth, an urn and flower cartouche, and an applied fret. The upper section contains two short drawers over four long drawers; the lower section holds three long drawers and sits on ogee bracket feet. Stacked, horizontal glue blocks support the foot facings, a construction method rarely seen in Philadelphia casework. The brass pulls and escutcheons are original. The long drawers are marked in chalk and pencil with Arabic numerals in descending order, and the tops of the drawer blades or dust boards are marked with the corresponding numerals in pencil. |
